Quartz Countertop Care & Maintenance FAQ
1
Do quartz countertops require professional sealing like natural stone?
Answer: No, quartz surfaces never require sealing, polishing, or reconditioning. Unlike natural stones like granite or marble, engineered quartz is naturally non-porous thanks to the resin binders used in manufacturing. This factory-sealed finish permanently resists liquids and bacteria, making it exceptionally low-maintenance.
2
What is the best daily cleaning method for quartz surfaces?
Answer: For daily maintenance, less is more. Simply use a soft microfiber cloth or sponge dampened with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap. Wipe down the surface gently and rinse thoroughly with clean water to prevent soapy film buildup. For dried-on messes, let a damp cloth sit on the spot for a few minutes to loosen it before wiping.
3
Are quartz countertops heat-resistant, and can I place hot pans directly on them?
Answer: Quartz is heat-resistant, but it is not heat-proof. While it can handle brief exposure to moderate temperatures, the resin polymers inside the slab can suffer thermal shock, discoloration, or cracking under extreme or prolonged heat. Always use trivets, hot pads, or heat-resistant mats when placing hot pots, pans, or slow cookers straight from the stove.
4
What cleaning products and materials should be avoided to protect quartz?
Answer: Avoid harsh chemicals and highly abrasive tools. Never use strong acids or high-alkaline (high-pH) cleaners, such as bleach, oven cleaners, drain openers, acetone (nail polish remover), or paint strippers. Additionally, steer clear of steel wool, metal blades, or abrasive scouring pads, as they can scratch and dull the factory resin gloss. If accidental exposure occurs, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
5
Is it safe to cut food directly on a quartz countertop?
Answer: While quartz is highly scratch-resistant, cutting directly on the surface is not recommended. Quartz is incredibly hard (ranking around 5-6 on the Mohs hardness scale), meaning direct chopping won't easily scratch the stone, but it will quickly dull and ruin your kitchen knives. To protect both your investment in premium knives and the lasting finish of your countertop, always use a separate cutting board.
Keep your surface safe and clean
1
Simple Daily Cleaning
A small amount of warm soapy water is enough for routine wiping.
2
Approved Household Cleaners
Ordinary home cleaning sprays and detergents work perfectly on solid surface.
3
Prevent Surface Discoloration
Wipe spills and splashes right away. Always keep the surface dry to avoid uneven tarnish.
4
Special Care for Dark Shades
Discoloration and faint marks stand out more on dark solid surface. Cream-hued tinted cleaners are not recommended.
5
Heat Protection Tips
Never set hot pots, pans or baking ware directly on the countertop. Always use trivets or heat-resistant pads.
6
Stop Scratches & Abrasion
Use a dedicated cutting board for chopping food. Keep sharp knives, metal tools and rough abrasive items off the surface.
7
Chemical Safety Warning
Long contact with extreme high or low pH chemicals will harm the solid surface body. Harsh bleaches, strong solvents and corrosive liquids must be used cautiously or avoided.
8
Stubborn Stain Removal
For stains that have not deeply penetrated the homogeneous solid surface core: Gelandy cleaning paste easily lifts rust, permanent oil marker ink and all types of tough, stuck-on blemishes. Apply gently, rub softly, then rinse fully with clean water.
9
Extra Bonus: Homogeneous One-Body Structure
Unlike layered countertops, solid surface is consistent material through and through. Minor scratches can be sanded and polished to restore a brand-new smooth finish without uneven fading.

Solid Surface Countertop Care & Maintenance FAQ
1
Can Solid Surface countertops be repaired if they get scratched or burnt?
Answer: Yes, one of the greatest advantages of Solid Surface is that it is 100% renewable. Unlike quartz or natural stone, Solid Surface has a homogenous composition, meaning the color and pattern run all the way through the material. Minor scratches and scorch marks can be easily buffed out using a mild abrasive pad (like Scotch-Brite) or fine-grit sandpaper. Deep gashes can even be seamlessly repaired by a professional using a matching piece of material.
2
How heat-resistant is Solid Surface, and do I need a trivet?
Answer: Solid Surface has good heat resistance, but you should ALWAYS use a trivet or hot pad. While it complies with industry standards for heat exposure, direct contact with extremely hot cookware (above 100°C / 212°F) straight from the stove or oven can cause the acrylic resins to warp, crack, or discolor. Always place hot pots, pans, or heat-generating appliances (like air fryers or slow cookers) on a protective surface.
3
Are Solid Surface countertops completely seamless and hygienic?
Answer: Yes. When installed, individual pieces are joined using a special color-matched adhesive, creating an inconspicuous, seamless look. Because there are no visible joints, grout lines, or seams, dirt, grime, and moisture have nowhere to hide. Combined with its completely non-porous nature, Solid Surface does not support the growth of mold, mildew, or bacteria, making it one of the most hygienic options for kitchens and healthcare environments.
4
What cleaning products should I avoid on a Solid Surface?
Answer: Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, particularly paint removers and strong acids. Products containing acetone (such as nail polish removers), methylene chloride, oven cleaners, or heavy-duty drain openers can chemically damage the surface finish. If any of these chemicals accidentally come into contact with your countertop, rinse the area immediately and thoroughly with soapy water.
5
Will cutting directly on a Solid Surface damage it?
Answer: Yes, you should never chop or cut food directly on a Solid Surface. Compared to quartz or granite, Solid Surface is a softer material and will easily show knife scratches. While these scratches can be sanded down and repaired later, it is always recommended to use a dedicated cutting board to keep your countertop looking flawless and to protect your knives from dulling.
