Gelandy: 25 Years of Advancing Healthy Homes with Food-Grade Countertops

In recent years, the home furnishing and building materials industry has been undergoing a transformation—from scale-driven expansion to value-led development, and from basic functional assurance to the safeguarding of health. Guangzhou Gelandy New Materials Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Gelandy”), through 25 years of perseverance and innovation, has achieved a leap from “bringing in” international quality standards to “going global.” The company’s concept of “food-grade countertops” has not only built a strong health safeguard for the kitchens of hundreds of millions of households, but has also, through technological breakthroughs and a strong sense of corporate responsibility, propelled the industry toward high-quality development.

Unwavering from the Start: Quality as the Anchor of Value

In 1998, China’s high-end building materials market was still in its infancy. Consumers were primarily focused on practicality, while concepts such as health and safety had yet to gain widespread awareness. During a study tour in Europe, Tian Yu, founder of Gelandy, became deeply aware of the gap between domestic and international home furnishing industries in terms of quality standards and safety philosophy. “Why can’t Chinese families use kitchen countertops that are just as safe and healthy?” This question not only ignited his entrepreneurial ambition, but also reflected a sincere concern for improving the quality of life of ordinary Chinese households.

Tian subsequently entered the business world by introducing premium European building materials to the Chinese market. However, his role as a trader soon revealed its limitations. Without deep involvement in the industrial chain, quality, he realized, would remain like “a tower built on sand”—unsustainable in the long run.

In 2000, Tian founded Gelandy and decisively embarked on building a fully integrated industrial chain covering both quartz stone and solid surface materials. From stringent control at the source of raw material selection, to continuous technological breakthroughs in production processes, and to meticulous manufacturing and processing services, the principle of “quality” has been deeply embedded in every link of the company’s development. In its early days, the company faced successive challenges including capital shortages, technical barriers, and a lack of skilled talent. Yet Tian remained firmly convinced that only by mastering core capabilities could one truly define what constitutes “good building materials.”

To honor this commitment, Gelandy established rigorous raw material selection standards and a comprehensive, end-to-end quality traceability system. All raw materials must pass testing by authoritative third-party institutions in compliance with food-contact material safety standards before entering production. Despite repeated feedback from the procurement department regarding rising costs, Tian’s stance has always been clear and resolute: “When it comes to health and safety, Gelandy does not talk about cost-performance ratios—only compliance or non-compliance.”

Over 25 years of sustained dedication, Gelandy has earned broad recognition from both the market and the industry through its unwavering commitment to quality. The company has been honored with titles such as “National High-Tech Enterprise,” “China Green Building Materials Product Certification,” and “National Green Stone Factory,” and has been repeatedly recognized as a Guangdong Province enterprise that “Honors Contracts and Values Credit.”

Gelandy’s products have been applied in landmark projects including Shanghai Disney Resort, Ruijin Hospital, and the University of Oxford. The company has also established in-depth strategic partnerships with a wide range of leading domestic enterprises, such as China Resources Land, Jinmao, JD.com, Guangzhou Metro, Sophia, and Shangpin Home Collection. Today, Gelandy’s market presence extends to more than 50 countries and regions worldwide.

Unwavering from the Start: Quality as the Anchor of Value

Amid intense homogenized competition in the quartz stone industry, Gelandy has avoided price wars and instead chosen to focus on consumers’ most fundamental health needs, breaking away from “involution” through innovation. In March 2024, Gelandy took the lead in introducing the concept of a new product category—“food-grade countertops”—shifting the industry’s competitive focus from pure product competition to higher-level value competition.

Achieving “food-grade” standards requires strict control at the source. Gelandy adheres rigorously to China’s food contact material safety standard (GB 4806.5-2016) and has obtained certification from the U.S. National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) for food equipment materials. In terms of raw materials, the company uses natural food-grade quartz sand and quartz powder, along with high-quality resins, completely eliminating toxic solvents such as dichloroethane, toluene, and xylene. As a result, Gelandy incurs additional costs exceeding tens of millions of yuan annually. Tian Yu explained, “What increases is cost; what we eliminate are users’ potential health risks in the future. This is money spent at the root of the problem.”

Empowered by advanced materials technology, Gelandy’s countertops have achieved a revolutionary functional upgrade. By integrating long-lasting antibacterial and antiviral agents into the surface, the products effectively inhibit the growth and survival of common harmful bacteria and viruses, significantly reducing the risk of foodborne diseases caused by surface contact. Some products are also capable of actively decomposing free formaldehyde in the air, continuously purifying the kitchen environment. In addition, their excellent stain resistance and wear resistance prevent contamination from penetrating the surface and becoming breeding grounds for bacteria, making the countertops easy to clean and maintain.

Furthermore, Gelandy has established a full-chain traceability system, with detailed records covering every stage from raw material procurement to product sales. Through product traceability labels, consumers can access information on raw material sources, production processes, and inspection reports, enabling “visible safety.” To help consumers perceive “invisible health,” Gelandy has developed a “perceivable value system” by structuring its product lines into a “health ladder”: the Series 1 focuses on stain resistance, Series 3 offers stain resistance and antibacterial protection, and Series 7 provides mold resistance, antiviral performance, and formaldehyde removal—allowing consumers to make informed choices based on their needs. Thanks to these features and advantages, Gelandy’s food-grade countertops have received positive market feedback and have now entered more than 6 million households nationwide.

Powered by Innovation: Technology Shaping a New Industry Model

Against the backdrop of technology-driven industrial upgrading, Gelandy has consistently positioned scientific and technological innovation as the core engine of its development. By increasing investment in research and development, the company has strengthened its capacity for independent innovation and forged a path of specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative growth.

From spearheading product innovation in its early years to achieving continuous breakthroughs in green and environmentally friendly materials, intelligent manufacturing, and high-performance solid surface products in recent years, Gelandy has remained committed to a “R&D-first” strategy. To date, the company holds 74 national patents and has participated in the formulation of 15 national and industry standards, including the CECS standard Evaluation Standard for Green Building Materials—Integral Kitchens and Limits of Harmful Substances in Solid Surface Materials for Interior Decoration and Renovation (T/CBMF 63-2019). These achievements have not only strengthened Gelandy’s core competitiveness but have also contributed to the industry’s transition toward healthier, more environmentally responsible, and standardized development.

Centered on consumers’ core expectations—health, usability, and aesthetics—Gelandy continues to deepen its innovation efforts. To address personalized decorative preferences and the specialized requirements of different environments, the company has developed functional products such as luminescent stone, negative-ion stone, thermo-sensitive stone, antibacterial stone, and medical-grade quartz. Meanwhile, naturally inspired and fashion-forward patterns have been designed to complement diverse home styles, ranging from minimalist modern to vintage European, resulting in more than 100 countertop options aligned with market demand. A comprehensive installation service system ensures optimal on-site results, with professional teams overseeing every stage from measurement and fabrication to final installation. In addition, the “health ladder” product lineup clearly communicates differentiated value to consumers.

From introducing European-quality standards to defining the global benchmark for “food-grade countertops,” and from upholding uncompromising quality to leading the industry toward healthier upgrades, Gelandy has, for 25 years, remained guided by its original mission of safeguarding the kitchen health of Chinese households—serving as a vivid example of China’s manufacturing sector evolving from “Made” to “Well-Made.” Standing at a new starting point, Gelandy will continue to use technology as its pen and health as its ink, advancing the technical development and application scenarios of food-grade countertops so that safer and healthier living environments can benefit more families.
