As T/CSBZ 015-2026 takes effect, a clearer framework for materials, testing and traceability puts kitchen surface safety in focus.

GUANGZHOU, China — A new association standard for resin-bonded quartz countertops suitable for food contact took effect on September 1, 2026, marking a significant step toward more consistent safety requirements in China's countertop sector. Gelandy is identified in the published standard as its principal drafting organization, underscoring the company's involvement in advancing food-contact countertop standards.

Issued by the China Stone Material Association, T/CSBZ 015-2026 covers products intended for direct contact with food. Its provisions address raw materials, finished-product safety, testing, inspection, labeling and traceability. The foreword names Guangzhou Gelandy New Material Co., Ltd. as the principal drafting organization and identifies the association as the body that proposed and administers the document. [1]

The initiative has attracted attention in Chinese media. Sina Home reported on Gelandy's role in the draft-stage initiative in December 2025, while Haishi Business News reported in May 2026 that the standard had passed expert review. These reports document the progression from development to review; the published document establishes the final requirements and implementation date. [2][3]

Turning food-contact claims into measurable requirements

For countertop manufacturers and buyers, the standard's value lies in connecting food-contact claims with defined technical criteria. It establishes eight categories of food-contact safety requirements, covering sensory properties, overall migration, potassium permanganate consumption, heavy metals, decolorization, primary aromatic amine migration, styrene migration and acute oral toxicity. [1]

For example, the overall migration limit is 10 mg/dm² under the specified test conditions. Limits also address individual substances, including antimony, arsenic, cadmium and chromium. The resulting framework gives manufacturers a more consistent basis for quality control and gives specifiers and purchasers clearer questions to ask when assessing food-contact suitability. [1]

The document also distinguishes basic products from products claiming special functions, such as antibacterial, antiviral, mold-resistant or formaldehyde-removal performance. Such functions have separate requirements. This distinction can help purchasers evaluate specific claims rather than assume that every food-contact countertop offers the same additional benefits. [1]

Material integrity at the center of Gelandy's approach

Gelandy describes careful material selection as central to its food-contact countertop strategy. According to the company's stated commitment, it uses pure quartz sand as the mineral raw material, rejects adulteration or deceptive substitution, and avoids toxic or harmful resin materials. This is a material-selection commitment; the finished engineered surface also contains resin and other formulation ingredients.

In its published materials guidance, Gelandy emphasizes purpose-selected resin and high-quality quartz sand and powder, alongside controls over auxiliary materials. The company presents these choices as the starting point for dependable countertop quality and food-contact safety. [4]

The standard reinforces the importance of this approach through explicit raw-material controls. Resin must meet GB 4806.7 food-safety requirements, while unsaturated polyester resin must meet the prohibited- and restricted-substance requirements of T/CSRA 6. Clause 5 also prohibits the use of specified harmful substances, including toluene, xylene, ethylbenzene and listed halogenated hydrocarbons. [1]

A stronger foundation for confidence in kitchen surfaces

Gelandy's principal drafting role provides documented evidence of its contribution to developing a shared safety framework for the industry. For customers, confidence in a particular countertop is strengthened when that commitment is accompanied by relevant product testing, clear identification and traceable quality records.

The standard requires traceability of safety information and relevant harmful-substance information, and specifies compliance with GB/T 45592 for the product traceability system. Together with its testing and labeling provisions, these measures can support more accountable supply chains and more informed purchasing decisions. [1]

By contributing to this framework, Gelandy is helping move the food-contact countertop conversation toward verifiable requirements. The standard creates a stronger technical foundation for responsible manufacturers to demonstrate quality and for customers to seek documented assurance about the surfaces used in their kitchens.
