From Sheets to Finished Tops

Solid surface countertops combine clean design, smooth finishes, and outstanding flexibility. But creating a finished top that fits the project requires more than simply cutting a sheet to size. Every stage—from fabrication and pre-assembly to packaging and installation—must be carefully coordinated.

At GELO, we transform solid surface sheets into finished tops through a clear and controlled process. Here is a closer look at how each countertop moves from the workshop to the final space.

1. Precision Cutting

The process begins with solid surface sheets and detailed project specifications. Each sheet is cut according to the required dimensions, layout, and design.

Accurate cutting creates the foundation for every step that follows. It helps ensure that countertop sections, openings, edges, and other components align correctly during assembly and installation.

2. Seamless Joining

After cutting, the individual components are joined to form the countertop. Solid surface material is especially suitable for creating smooth, visually continuous surfaces.

Careful joining reduces visible seam lines and gives the finished top a clean, integrated appearance. This makes solid surface a practical choice for kitchens, bathrooms, reception areas, retail spaces, healthcare interiors, and other commercial applications.

 3. Coved Joint Fabrication

Where the countertop meets a backsplash or upstand, a **coved joint** can be used to create a smooth curved transition instead of a sharp internal corner.

The continuous curve gives the countertop a refined, seamless look. It also makes the corner easier to clean, which is particularly valuable in kitchens, laboratories, clinics, and other spaces where hygiene and easy maintenance matter.

4. Fine Sanding

Once the sections are joined, the surface and edges are carefully sanded. This step smooths the joints, refines the shape, and produces a consistent finish across the countertop.

The sanding process brings the individual pieces together visually and creates the soft, uniform appearance associated with high-quality solid surface tops.

5. Pre-Assembly Check

Before packaging, the finished components are pre-assembled for inspection. This allows the overall dimensions, connections, joints, and alignment to be checked before the countertop leaves the workshop.

Pre-assembly is an important step for custom projects. It helps confirm that the separate sections work together as intended and supports a smoother installation on site.

6. Secure Packaging

Finished countertops require careful protection during transportation. Each component is packed securely to help protect its surface, edges, and fabricated details.

Clear organization and appropriate packaging also make it easier for installers to identify and handle the different sections when they arrive at the project location.

From Solid Surface Sheets to Finished Tops

With flexible fabrication possibilities and a clean, seamless appearance, solid surface is well suited to both residential and commercial projects.
